State Sen. Doug Erickson will be proposing legislation to make it a class 4 felony for protesters that adversely effect economic activity. Issues of free speech and right of assembly aside.
I am certain he has no intention of charging Boeing officials who threatened economic mayhem if they didn't get the largest tax exemption in the United States. In fact, companies threaten to relocate or close all the time to protest against any attempts to take away their tax exemptions. These actions affect the economy as well.
Should his proposal pass, which is highly unlikely, it certainly should address these continued corporate extortions. The scale of the actions of a group of individual protesters pales by comparison to those of these corporate entities. Perhaps, he could make their actions a class 2 felony?
