Chief Roberts should apologize to the port

Regarding the Olympian’s “Police chief blasts Port of Olympia for allowing fracking-related shipments,” I am shocked that Chief Roberts of the Olympia Police Department has the audacity to rebuke the Port of Olympia for conducting legal business.

The protesters were conducting illegal activities. My father was a policeman. I grew up around police officers and I am very supportive of police officers. They have an extremely difficult job and have to work in situations most all of us would avoid. Thank you officers for performing your duties and removing the illegal protesters!

The port personnel also have difficult jobs these days. The chief at the very least owes the port a public apology. Where does the chief draw the line with illegal behavior? Are broken windows and buildings vandalized by protesters supported?

I suppose the chief is against military shipments too? I now understand why the state capitol is overrun by vagrants that shoot heroin in the bathrooms of our library and city parks and defecate on the Capital streets.

It seems the chief perhaps doesn’t want to hurt the feelings of people that participate in illegal activities? Please note the city is considering spending hundreds of thousands of our tax dollars to provide bathrooms for these street people. So the chief says the port has choices and options, well so does the chief. If enforcing the law doesn’t sit well with him, maybe he should make a different choice. Publicly apologize to the port, Chief! Support the working taxpayers.
