A simple habit that will change your life

My Grandpa once told me, “No matter how terrible your day is, if you make your bed you’ve at done at least one thing right.” In all honesty, I’d forgotten about this advice, and until recently I used to leave my bed looking like a war zone. This changed however, when I received some timely advice from a friend who shared his experiences from basic training with me. To my surprise, he echoed my Grandpa’s advice about the value of bed making. Overwhelmed by the final weeks of my semester, I decided I had nothing to lose and put bed making to the test.

To my surprise, making my bed has quickly become the anchor to my morning routine. I’m not a morning person, but I found myself feeling accomplished after the first few days of leaving my apartment with a pristine bed. Mornings have gone from being a chore, to an opportunity to start my day with a small, yet meaningful victory. In addition, when rough days do come, nothing feels better then going to sleep in a well made bed. It may seem cliché, but this habit, as simple as it may seem, has proven to be one of the most rewarding changes I’ve made in my life. If you are like I was, in a complicated relationship with mornings, I recommend starting your day by making your bed, it may catalyze the start to your day that you’ve been looking for.
