Down the Rabbit Hole
Sometimes in today’s political climate, I sympathize with Alice when she fell down the rabbit hole. It seems that we live in an alternate reality. General opinion would probably call the conservative right ‘Christian’, the left agnostic at best. But what do they approve of and represent today?
For example: take away the party labels and all identification, and ask which kind of person should be president. One who is a faithfully married man with no scandals, who obviously loves his spouse and children. One who has been thrice married, admittedly an adulterer, who brags about his sexual exploits. Family values?
Or: Jesus tells us that on Judgment Day, we will be asked when we fed the hungry, cared for the poor, etc. He does not ask if you were gay, or had an abortion. He does not say that the poor must be deserving. Would He approve of food stamps, or Meals on Wheels, or teaching disabled children?
And what about welcoming the stranger? What about rampant greed, and wealth inequality? Who supports these? By the way, we tend to be unaware of the extent of inequality; if you had a billion dollars and put it under your mattress, no interest, and took out and spent $20,000 every day, you could not spend it in your lifetime. It would take over 135 years to spend it (check it out with your calculator). Why is it okay with us for some to have so much?
This makes America great?
