Teachable moments on both sides

Mr. Koch’s teachable moment (April 19) makes me laugh. Here’s a simple one he can’t seem to get his head around. Approximately 3 million more U.S. citizens voted for Clinton than voted for Trump. That makes Trump a minority president. Period. End of argument.

It seems Mr. Koch likes to ignore popular votes. He accuses our governor and attorney general of setting a dangerous precedent by disregarding federal laws, specifically drug and gun laws. He conveniently forgets that the legalization of marijuana in this state was accomplished by a vote of the people. A majority of Washington citizens approved it. And we’re not alone. Majority votes legalized medical and/or recreational marijuana in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, and Oregon. Other states legalized it through legislative action, for a total of 28.

And as far as I can tell, Mr. Koch still gets to keep his guns.
