State budget woes won't stop
The leaks from the state budget tax proposals are disturbing. Sales tax is a regressive tax and hurts those needing to purchase necessities on a budget disproportionately. It also hurts local businesses. Property taxes are already taxing people out of their homes. The solution is a state income tax. If done properly, this could solve the state budget woes while making taxes more fair and equitable. Property tax up to a certain fair value linked to assessment variations on the place where you live would be eliminated. If you own other properties, tax them. Eliminate state sales tax entirely. This would give state business a big boost and create economic expansion and more jobs while at the same time helping those on limited incomes. Replace all this revenue and more with a state income tax shifting the burden to those that can afford it.
