Is this a Democracy at work?
How can Republican Senators justify coming up with a health care plan totally in secret? The Republicans reportedly do not plan any hearings and want to ram through the bill in two weeks, making it public only when it comes up for a vote.
Health care is a major portion of our economy. It has a direct impact on people’s employment, financial stability, and well-being. If the House bill is any measure of the Senate bill, it will be devastating to millions of Americans by charging higher premiums for seniors and those with pre-existing conditions, eliminating coverage altogether for many, and limiting Medicaid. It will adversely affect older people, children, those with disabilities and veterans. Some view health care as a privilege, not a right. If you are a person of compassion, health care for all is a given.
Fortunately, Senators Murray and Cantwell, who do care about people, are in strong opposition to this secretive process and to the House version of Trumpcare (which should be called “Trumpdoesn’tcare”). It is urgent that we reach out to family members and friends who live in Republican districts. We need to stop this unconscionable bill taking shape behind closed doors. Is this really how we want our democracy to work?
