Old time Democrats were moderate
Jay Shepard’s letter about Senator Tim Sheldon crossing party lines brought out the need for political education.
Once upon a time the Democrat party was honorable. Both Republicans and Democrats had the same goal; just different paths to that goal. They both put country before party.
The great Democrats from the past include President John F. Kennedy who had a master’s degree in economics. He actually increased federal revenue by lowering federal taxes. Scoop Jackson, another great Democrat, was strong on defense; sometimes he was called the senator from Boeing. Democrat State Auditor Brian Sontag ignored politics. He held state agencies accountable to prevent taxpayers from being ripped off.
Time changes things. Old time Democrats often say “I have not left the Democrat party; the Democrat party left me.” The party made a sharp left turn towards the cliff of socialism.
Many Democrats today are offensive in their language; combative in their behavior; aggressive in their protests; humorless in their politics; and a divider rather than unifier among the people. These liberal lemmings blindly follow the screechings of their socialist leaders.
Tim Sheldon remained a Democrat out of party loyalty but stood firm against the looney left in the House, the Senate, and the Governor’s office this year. He made them compromise their tax and spend and their over-regulation plans for 2017-19 budget.
There are still some old time honorable Democrats. Where are these honorable Democrats? One is in the State Senate, representing Washington’s 35th District. Thanks, Tim.
