Gender X: Are you sure?
Delivery room conversation;
Obstetrician:
Congratulations, Mrs. Smith. It’s a boy!
Nurse:
How can you be sure?
Obstetrician:
Well…
Nurse:
I mean, what if, when he’s older, he decides that HE’S not sure?
Obstetrician:
I see your point. But there is hope. If the proposed non-binary choice becomes effective, he can skip the male/female box on his birth certificate and check the third one, Gender X.
Nurse:
Right. But in the meantime, which of the two gender boxes should I mark?
Obstetrician:
I’m not sure.
