Milt Harper for Fire Commissioner, South Bay District 8

I recommend the reelection of Milt Harper for Fire Commissioner of South Bay District 8. I have known Milt for 13 years and had the pleasure of working with him for the betterment of our northeast neighborhood community. Milt is a committed and impassioned public servant and volunteer. He has worked tirelessly for schools, both in PTA and the classroom, served as a volunteer emergency responder, and for the past six years, served on the Board of the Fire Commission, with four years as chair of the Board.

There are two personal qualities which make Milt an exceptional commissioner. The first is his ability to listen to divergent points of view with respect. He hears the concerns of neighbors, tax-payers, and colleagues and takes them seriously. Milt is respected by people whose views are different than his own, a quality essential in a good leader.

Second, Milt dives deep into an issue, learning from other fire departments, from experts, and from peers in the community. Any decision Milt makes reflects his emphasis on community connectivity, fact, and best practice.

Milt’s goals for the future of the South Bay District are simple: high-quality affordable service throughout the district; recruitment of new volunteer and career firefighters to broaden the workforce; and securing the future of the district. There is no better person to represent the needs of the South Bay District than Milt Harper.
