Letters to the Editor

Mr. President, enough is enough

Every cry is a song. Every song is a prayer. And our prayers will be heard. Thank you to Senator Jeff Flake (R) from Arizona for standing up and calling out the debasement of our country by an administration so shallow, destructive, and self-serving. A president who has no shred of human dignity. A Republican party which is more concerned about their own private agendas than the security of our nation.

As Flake mentioned in his speech, “When decency fails to call out indecency, God help us.” Albert Einstein (who was Jewish) basically said the same thing when Hitler destroyed his birth country and murdered millions of innocent people: “The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.” He also said, “Blind belief in authority is the greatest enemy of truth.”

So, here we are caught in a crossfire we have not seen since the Civil War. What will we do about it? It starts with us at the community level. We must stand up and be one nation, one people, regardless of gender, color, sexual orientation, religion, party affiliation, socio-economic status. That means showing kindness, acceptance at all levels of our relationships with each other, respect for each other, telling the truth, teaching our children the wonders and beautiful things in our world.

America has always been great. Let’s keep it that way.
