YMCA to move for the first time in a century

The YMCA has been a part of the Olympia scene since 1892. In that year, a tradition of service to this community began, one that continues today as the South Sound YMCA looks to the present needs of local families.

As former Presidents of the South Sound YMCA Board of Trustees, we are pleased that the current Board has decided to develop a new downtown site for the YMCA. Although the current Franklin Street Location is loved by many, the aging building requires expensive maintenance in order to remain functional. Acquiring the present 5th Avenue Fitness Center building on Plum Street will allow the YMCA to benefit the community by remaining downtown in a modern facility.

The YMCA’s mission is to enrich lives. We have seen firsthand over the years how the YMCA has had a positive impact on people of all ages, incomes, abilities, and backgrounds in our community. The decision to relocate the downtown YMCA is a commitment to our community for generations to come. It is a good time for anyone who has benefitted from the YMCA’s presence in Olympia to support this respected organization.

This is our YMCA. We invite everyone to get involved by joining, volunteering, and donating to Olympia’s YMCA. Stop in and visit us Downtown, at the Briggs YMCA or connect with southsoundymca.org.
