Capitol Center building is worth saving
Please add my voice to the reasonable ones advocating for the remodel of the Capital Center Building. I strongly support saving the building and turning it into something beautiful and useful.
Olympia doesn’t need another park costing taxpayers (you and me) $30 million and requiring costly perpetual maintenance, when the city is hard-pressed to maintain the parks we have. Olympia does need more housing, so it would be a shame and a tremendous waste of resources to tear down an existing structure with such great potential.
I am a resident of Olympia and a retired electrician. I have actually worked in the Capital Center Building and I believe some who oppose the remodel would change their minds if they could see the view of the bay and the surrounding area from the upper floors of this great building. It is spectacular! Saving green space is one thing but tearing down much needed housing to create green space is counterproductive.
