Nurse at Western State Hospital quits because of horrific conditions

I was hired and began working as a Registered Nurse 2 at Western State Hospital in August 2016. Within weeks of starting, I began having major concerns about staff treatment of patients. Then I began having concerns about staff treatment of staff.

I am from Houston, Texas, and I worked in the Medical Center for the majority of my 27 years as a critical care nurse, and I could never have imagined in my lifetime that I would witness the level of barbarity and debauchery as I have at this hospital. Reporting it to proper channels as a duty to report is futile -- nothing changes.

This place is corrupt and lives are in danger, both patient and staff. The mentality of the upper nursing management is medieval, which sets the overall tone of the care provided. There are caring nurses there, but those running the place need to be investigated.
