A different perspective on immigration

A tidal wave of real grief. Broad-based sympathetic reaction. A first reversal of “new” policy by Executive Order, though without funding or structural implementation and with a warning that danger still more than lurks. But a reversal is a reversal regardless of motivation. Even a brief nod to our history, however, tells us this scenario is not a novel one — note native Americans, slavery, various ethnic and religious groups. What do they have in common? I submit fear and greed.

A light in the labyrinth? A Congressional consensus on families seeking asylum, DACA, improving “border security?” Is the impediment as simple as “the Wall?” Much is made of it fulfilling a campaign promise. I recall a basic part of that promise was it being finance by Mexico. Since the Mexicans have dismissed that option and become involved in a tariff turf skirmish, I suggest the time has come for a second reversal. Allow The Wall to be built or not on its own merit, and the immediate injustices addressed expeditiously.
