I-1631 may have failed but we must not
I was saddened at the defeat of Proposition 1631, the clean air initiative. It was a chance for Washingtonians to show their seriousness about climate protection. I hope the opponents were thinking realistically about our future.
We, the world’s people, do not have much time to protect our climate from irreversible harm. But most of us can do more. For example, if you have cash, consider solar panels, heat pumps, or an electric car. In any case, consume less coal, natural gas and meat—which uses a lot of fossil fuel to produce! Consider working with the Thurston County Action Team, the Fellowship of Reconciliation’s Climate Committee, the Sierra Club, or the Citizens’ Climate Lobby. Write your state and federal delegates. Thus, no matter the influence each of us has, we will have done our part.
