Shannon’s departure means a ‘Lesser Olympian’

The Seattle newspaper columnist Emmett Watson often spoke of “Lesser Seattle” as a way to discourage the booming population in his city. Borrowing a smidge here from EW, I submit that editorial-page editor Brad Shannon’s recent departure from our regional newspaper means a Lesser Olympian.

For upward of 40 years Mr. Shannon has put pen to paper, fingers to keys in the name of telling stories we need to hear. He has covered the waterfront, for sure, and so much more. This sterling scribe for many years kept the sun shining on state-government activities and legislative chicanery. For sure, I remember state-budget brouhahas in the Legislature that Brad Shannon chased down and tackled — and then got the word out to readers in fair, even-handed, commonsense language. Goodness knows up to what sort of wordsmithing he’ll be getting in the years ahead. Whatever it is, it’ll be a dang fine read.
