Olympia has no seasonal spirit
Every year I look forward to the Christmas tree in Sylvester Park and each year for the past several years, the lush Northwest Christmas tree I have grown to expect has grown smaller and more bare of branches, to the point of looking like someone nailed the branches to a tree trunk.
After last year, I didn’t think the tree could be more lame, until I saw this year’s example of what someone calls a holiday tree. Not only is it smaller, and sparse, it certainly does not represent the quality of the City of Olympia nor the respect that the Capitol of the state deserves. I don’t know whether it is the Downtown Association or the City of Olympia that’s responsible, but it appears that someone just couldn’t be bothered to show off the spirit of the City and I wonder if we have a Grinch in charge of decorating the downtown.
We can do better and we should do better. Pride in our city and downtown is never more apparent than during the holiday season. The city has no spirit and it certainly shows.
