Dangerous intersection in Lacey
Last summer, the city of Lacey made alterations to the intersection at Yelm Highway and Corporate Center Drive. On a dark and rainy night, the new median is not visible. We recently hit it and destroyed two tires and possibly caused more damage to our car.
After pulling into the nearby Lowe’s parking lot to call a tow truck, we learned from a Thurston County deputy that we were not the first to do this. Ten minutes into our wait, another car pulled in with a flat left tire, having hit the same median. Shortly after, a bystander approached and told us someone had hit it the night before, and then we learned from another person that a pickup had hit it earlier in the week.
The city has created a very dangerous situation there and has apparently elected to ignore it. I feel obligated to warn motorists to use extreme caution when driving that section of highway at night.
It’s time for telephone line carrier companies to step up
In today’s ever-growing technological world, security and privacy are becoming more and more challenging. Other than protecting our finances, the number one problem for most is unwanted calls to our home phones as well as our cell phones.
We have been forced to buy call-blocker machines that only work until the groups making the calls change their numbers or to simply ignore incoming calls by shutting off ringers and seeing who leaves a message so you can call them back at a later time. If you have ever called one of these intruders back, you will most likely be greeted with a recording stating either “This number has been disconnected” or “This number is no longer in service.”
If the numbers being used are invalid, how can they be used to call people? We pay for telephone services but we are not getting any protection from spam callers, robot callers or the “Do Not Call List,” which does nothing to stop intruders. None of our carriers are doing anything to stop the floods of calls, so it’s time for us to write our elected officials to have them pressure these carriers to block invalid numbers from being used and give us all some peace and quiet.
