Letters to the editor for Jan. 5
If I were born in 2000...
My life would greatly be influenced by:
WiFi, Wii, iPhones, camera phones, cell phones, Wikipedia, iPods, Facebook, Google, You Tube, iPads, Bluetooth, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tinder, Tik Tok, Alexa, Siri, G.P.S. , C.G., A.I., terrorism, Xbox, PS 1-2-3-4, Nintendo, screen time, DVRs, laptops, Chromebooks, Surface and Macbooks, Gender?, apps, Etsy, Offer-up, Uber, Lyft, smart-everything, vaping, selfies, likes, texting, sexting, Netflix, earbuds, Amazon, online shopping, porch pirates, lockdown drills, mass shootings, girl power, legal marijuana, the flu and measles, vaccines, activist voice, Echo, Marvel, Star Wars, Apple watches, suicide, anxiety, depression, my truth, internet challenges, climate change, participation trophies, opiods, homelessness, addiction, tolerance, hate crimes.
But what is real?
As I look through this list, there is a lot that satisfies needs and demands that have been created, but aren’t required for real living.
As one who’s lived through this time, I also see a void for a person raised up in a society offering such needs and demands with little parameters or boundaries around how to satisfy them. Underlying and throughout I see fear looming and pressure weighing.
What is real for a 20-year-old in 2020? They’ve been told “anything and everything they can imagine” they can accomplish. They’ve been told they can literally “be anything they want.” Both of these statements hold very different meaning than they did even 20 years ago.
What is real in 2020? Is it an irrelevant concept? I really don’t think so.
Rep. Shea is being impeached
The Democrats in the Washington state Legislature are doing the same thing to Rep. Matt Shea, R-Spokane, that we see occurring in Washington, D.C.
President Donald Trump has been the impeachment target of the Dems from the day he was elected. We live in a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy. Have any of your readers ever heard a progressive/liberal say we live in a Constitutional Republic? I doubt it. They always say we live in a democracy. Wrong! The D.C. liberals are tripping over themselves trying to find a charge for impeachment and, as of today, have a very slim chance of making any of those two charges stick. It is nothing more than a campaign maneuver pointing toward November 2020.
Rep. Shea is a Libertarian/Conservative and does not ascribe to “political correctness.” He states it like it is and it alarms the liberals. Rep. Shea has done his best to make it uncomfortable toward the Democrats. He speaks the truth. Democrats have been calling themselves Progressives. Now these Progressives are being revealed as Socialists wanting more and more control over our daily lives. That’s right – tax and spend big time. I hope Rep. Shea digs in his heels and stays the course. We need more like him.
Your readers would do well to compare techniques being used in D.C. and Olympia. This is the new campaign methodology being put into place when your party platform has nothing the voters desire.
