Politics of revenge and our rogue President

Disrespect, dishonor, disloyal, petty, vindictive — the adjectives get used up.

Americans have fought for freedom from England, for the freedom of the slaves in the Civil War, for freedom of Europe from Naziism and fascism in World War II.

Now the fight is different. It is time for Americans to fight for our freedom from our rogue President. His policies and those of his party faithful will destroy our democracy from within. No respect for rule of law, no respect for Congress, no respect for the judiciary — behavior of a President never seen in all the years of our democracy, which has been the envy of the world.

The President’s Chief of Staff’s response when questioned about certain policies was “Get over it!”

I don’t think the American people are going to “Get over it.” I think we are going to remove the blight from our presidency.

Mama Bear disgusted with lawlessness

I’m tired of complaining and I am ashamed that I’ve become so disgusted.

I’m sick that my oldest daughter, who is living in downtown Seattle for college, gets harassed and targeted every day. She cannot explore the city for fear of her life.

I’m the mom who was accosted last week with my 16-year-old in downtown Olympia while leaving dance class. I’m the mom who has to hear my daughter cry about her safety, despite the pepper spray, tasers and combat training she has!

I have lived in Olympia for more than 20 years. Compassion for the lawless has reduced us to tolerating grossly asocial behaviors.

My daughter and I were charged and aggressively lunged at three times, cursed at and spit on by a drugged out man this week while we were leaving a downtown dance studio. I was scared and ready to retaliate in defense of my kids.

Our community needs to return to enforcing basic civic standards. I would like to see city leaders endorse and support a law enforcement policy like no public drugging, defecating, or “camping“ in public spaces. No free needle giveaways!

All laws and ordinances should be obeyed and I want to feel safe and secure again. I don’t want to carry mace, tasers, pepper spray or any kind of weapons just to take my kid to dance class downtown. I want my oldest to attend college in Seattle and not get harassed and targeted every day.

Mary L. Glenn, Olympia

Vote for Warren

In the Democratic Presidential primary, all the candidates generally share a common set of values that advocate expanded access to health care, voting and education; seek to address climate change, immigration, income inequality, racial and gender rights, and gun safety; re-establish positive international relations with allies; stand for decency and the rule of law, and other issues.

But we also are weighing certain practical considerations along with how candidates plan to initiate their policies. Thus, our criteria of who to vote for includes the ability to:

1. Bring all factions of the Democratic electorate into the mix for November.

2. Go toe to toe with Trump, and take him to the woodshed throughout a tough Presidential campaign.

3. Have a wide range of options in identifying the strongest, most effective Vice Presidential running mate.

4. Support and enhance the campaigns of down-ballot nominees to hold the House and build a Senate majority.

5. Assemble a cabinet that inspires the participation of the best, brightest and most independent individuals in each area of government.

We believe Elizabeth Warren — uniquely among the candidates — is most qualified to meet all those concerns.
