Letters to the editor for March 27
Bagdad Bob at the helm
Bagdad Bob is living in the White House disguised as our President. We have come full circle as a nation. George Washington couldn’t tell a lie and President Trump can’t tell the truth. Our President is the Magma Cum Laude of liars.
Trump needs to butt out of the things he knows nothing about, like public health. Here we are facing a worldwide medical pandemic and all the information goes through his administration to be evaluated politically.
People don’t die from Democratic hoaxes. A vaccine is not just around the corner, it’s not like a cold, etc. Unlike Trump, math and science don’t lie.
The virus is getting worse not better. And your administration helped spread the virus by not letting medical health experts call the shots. Now you’re controlling and understating it all. But even Trump’s orange mask can’t hide the truth.
Everybody knows the truth lies in the stock market. ... A recession means defeat and hopefully indictments.
Bill Maher says Trump won’t leave, even if voted out of office. I say otherwise. A fitting departure would be for Lt. Col. Vindman and his brother to escort Trump off the property. But brothers, take it easy on those bone spurs.
Remember Donald, the truth will set you free, free from the White House?
Gov. ‘Snake’ Inslee
“If the President assails you with trashy talk
It might just brighten you days
‘Cause imagine how bad it’d feel to walk
Among those we see him praise!
“Thank you for rising above that chatter
It’s obvious that you’re seeing this right
Yes, it’s true, words really do matter
It’s always best to fight the good fight!”
I appreciate Gov. Inslee for decent, adult behavior.
Pandemic requires thinking beyond ‘me’
One unfortunate message appearing about coronavirus on television and the internet is: “Don’t worry about COVID-19 unless you are vulnerable. If you become seriously ill, we have the best medical care in the world, so just go on about your business. Go to that conference, catch that flight, go to work with a cold.”
The problem with this message is that each newly infected person infects at least two other people. These two people then each infect two more people who then each infect two more; you can see where this is going. So we all end up being exposed. Children with many birth defects, people with many chronic illnesses, and the elderly have COVID-19 mortality rates of over 20%.
Our health care system is nearly overwhelmed by our yearly influenza outbreaks. Mortality rates for influenza are about 1 in 1,000. Mortality rates for COVID-19 are about 1 in 100. Huge difference. What that means is that people who do become seriously ill with coronavirus are not going to be able to count on modern medicine to save their lives. Intensive care, especially ventilators, may have to be rationed unless we can slow the current spread of coronavirus.
We need to stop thinking in terms of “I” and “me” and instead think in terms of “we” and “us”. We need to listen carefully to our public health officials at all levels of government. We are all in this together and that is how we have to fight it.
