According to state laws the primary purpose of a Public Utility District is “to conserve the water and power resources of the county for the benefit of the people.” This is a vital aspect of having a locally controlled utility in an era of privatization of water and power resources in this county and around the globe.
Readers might remember the Washington Public Power Supply System (WPPSS) fiasco; on the surface an attempt to build five nuclear plants with public money. But to many, myself included, the WPPSS fiasco was considered to be a deliberate attempt to destroy public power in the Pacific Northwest Region. It almost succeeded.
I believe that John Komen is best suited and qualified to be our next Mason County PUD #3 Commissioner. He will protect and preserve our local utility and conserve our local resources for the benefit of our community.
