Lacey council should hearpublic on plastic bag ban

The small majority members of the Lacey City Council are emulating the same type of autocratic behavior as the previous members they replaced. They pretend to want input from their constituents, but ignore it when they receive it.

The issue of the plastic bag ban is an outstanding example of this. Before these bags were banned, I found several uses for them. It was a simple task to save the extras and drop them into one of the many recycle bins in the area.

My personal position about them is that if the council is going to ban plastic anything, it should ban all of it – soft drink bottles, water bottles, everything. That’s unreasonable, but so is banning plastic bags, particularly when 57 percent of the people recently opined that the ban should be lifted.

I sincerely hope the voters are paying attention to those who are unwilling to actually heed their constituents’ wishes and will exercise their power through their vote to replace them with someone who will do more than give lip service to wanting to involve public opinion.

I applaud council members Virgil Clarkson and Lenny Greenstein as two who clearly understand the meaning of public service.
