Bardin has more experience preparing her for council

Olympia is about to go through a great urban renewal unlike anything its seen in 100 years. Since the business exodus in downtown Olympia, caused by the completion of I-5 in the 1960‘s and the malls in the ’80‘s, downtown Olympia needs this transformation desperately. But it must be accomplished in a way that fits the needs of present, as well as future, Olympia residents.

Judy Bardin and Jessica Bateman are both running for election to the City Council. Both have been on the Planning Commission. Both have the initials JB. Both candidates’ websites promote safe and walkable neighborhoods, open spaces and parks, and a strong local economy. What’s the difference?

Judy has a wealth of varied experience in city government. She is already well-versed in its workings, and will need no training period to be an effective council member. Judy has a strong track record demonstrating her commitment to open government and heeding public input. While she is an enthusiastic proponent of significant new development in Olympia, she is also concerned that neighborhoods remain livable, that what is built benefits the whole community, and that it is sustainably financed. My personal experience with Judy shows her to be a very conscientious and ethical public servant.

Judy Bardin has gotten 88 percent of her funding from Olympia residents and organizations. Jessica Bateman has gotten almost half of her campaign donations from the Seattle area pdc.wa.gov. I am voting for Judy Bardin.
