Gun control backers in error about liability

Re: “Gun industry must not be shielded from liability,” The Olympian. Oct. 21. In response to both columnist Mary Sanchez and Hillary Clinton I would have to ask, how do you hold gun manufacturers liable for a legal product that works correctly?

Can you hold a gun manufacturer liable for human nature, mental illness, gangs and all the other maladies we suffer? Can Ruger, Colt or any other weapons manufacturer control how someone, after purchasing a legal product uses it? No.

No more than General Motors can control someone who purchases one of its vehicles and then commits a hit and run or causes an accident.

What about a knife company that produces a knife later used in a stabbing? No.

Gun manufacturers can be held liable, like any other industry, if their product malfunctions, causes injury. Not just because some people with a certain political belief don’t like them.
