Letters to the Editor

Kudos to Thurston for dislocated workers

This letter of appreciation is long overdue. I was recently notified my administrators position with a public school district was no longer funded due to unforeseen budget cuts.

I was left devastated and deeply confused. Getting laid off is a big shock but how one reacts makes all the difference in the world. I contacted the Dislocated Workers Program located at Employment Security’s Worksource Center in Tumwater.

I was fortunate to meet both Lee Childs and Mr. Michael Manning who co-facilitate this program. Childs conducted the orientation program and did an excellent job.

Manning was instrumental in my success throughout as my mentor. He never passed judgment on me being unemployed, was always professional, and had the right temperament to keep me motivated to complete this program.

I was fortunate to find employment with the guidance and leadership of both Mr. Manning and Ms. Childs.

I began full-time employment the day after I completed my training program. I thank them for their commitment to help me and others in our great community.
