KPLU radio worth saving
I’m surprised that more people aren’t publicly objecting to the sale of KPLU radio (88.5 or 90.1 FM).
Perhaps people think that KPLU is just for jazz enthusiasts as opposed to contemporary rock or country music. Actually, KPLU is the only radio station in Western Washington that combines entertainment in the form of easy listening music with news and commentary from National Public Radio – and it’s free over the air waves.
Years ago TV was free. With just an antenna we got local news and sports, and entertainment, news and commentary from ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS. Now we have to pay a cable or satellite company for just theses basics. These days many people get their entertainment and news from the internet or mobile device, but these also cost money.
Let’s not forget that we have people in our community that can’t afford either internet or TV. Everyone should have access to NPR.
There are ultra-conservative, right wing loud mouths that blame “biased” main stream media for what ails us all. By “biased” mainstream media, they mean ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS and NPR.
KPLU is worth protecting. Everyone should tune into to KPLU for a couple of days to find out what we are all about to lose before we lose it.
Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.
