Misinformation is upsetting and sad

In Bob Stone's recent letter to the editor, he makes the claim that the settlers of this country didn't go out to kill anybody or destroy the government. This is outlandish for a couple of reasons.

First of all, what does he call the systematic destruction of the Native Americans already living here? Did that simply not happen? Furthermore, the refugees seeking a home in the U.S. aren't trying to destroy us. They're trying to escape a great evil that has ravaged their home. The San Bernardino shooters weren't refugees. Farook was a U.S. citizen and his wife was a permanent resident.

The lack of research or thought on the part of some people in this nation is astounding. People would rather have an ignorant, fear based reaction rather than attempt to understand the situation.

This refugee crisis is an appalling humanitarian situation. It is our moral duty to provide a safe place for people torn out of place by war. The fact that xenophobic rhetoric even has a legitimate place in the discussion of what to do is just plain sad.
