Lacey is MIA on Willamette Drive traffic

My route to work at the Meridian Campus Business Park takes me past the intersection of Hogum Bay and Willamette Drive every day. Last week after yet another dangerous accident in the intersection I vowed to write a letter asking why Lacey is MIA. Today (Jan. 6) there is yet another accident between a car and a large pickup and it looked serious.

Willamette Drive consists of two lanes in each direction, a bend in the road and a very large median filled with sight blocking trees. This is an industrial area and trucks always have a difficult time getting across what is essentially six lanes.

Throw the bend in the road into the mix, add speed and the situation is extremely dangerous. Accidents are a weekly occurrence and have included three of our employees who were all hit by vehicles crossing Willamette on Hogum Bay Road.

I cannot fathom why the decision was made to install the roundabout at 31st and Willamette Drive prior to this treacherous intersection. Installing blinking speed limit signs is simply not enough - visibility is also a huge factor.

Does someone have to die before something is done?
