PSE says home energy reports make difference

On Jan. 7, a letter from Mr. Paul Steucke was published about our Home Energy Reports at Puget Sound Energy. He also contacted us directly with questions about the program.

We provide Home Energy Reports to help our customers understand their electric and natural gas usage, and provide ways to save energy and money. We’ve been sending these reports to select customers since 2008. We’ve found that customers receiving the reports save about $40 a year. That’s money they can use for other needs, while also helping to save valuable energy resources.

The neighbor comparisons in the reports are not necessarily based on homes next door, or even on the same street. We’ve chosen specific homes that are nearby and have characteristics that typically lead to similar energy needs, such as square footage, home type, and heating source. We rely on publicly available data as well as PSE data to build the comparisons.

Any facts that PSE has incorrect, or any facts that the customer wants to update to make the report more accurate, can be done by visiting PSEreports.com, where all customers can build their own profile. While there, customers can learn about our many energy efficiency programs that can help save money and cut their bills.

Customers can opt-out of receiving Home Energy Reports at any time by visiting PSEreports.com and changing their report setting, or by emailing an energy adviser at energyreports@PSE.com.
