Congress should obey the Constitution
It’s ironic how quickly Republicans ignore parts of the Constitution that get in their way.
Reportedly, Republicans are intent on blocking President Obama’s choice of a new Supreme Court justice.
But the U.S. Constitution clearly says that the president should appoint new justices. The Senate should then advise and consent on those appointments.
Every member of Congress takes an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution. The whole thing, not just the parts they like.
The 2016 election will be very heated. The presidential race is critically important. But the seats in Congress might be even more important.
In 2016, all 425 House seats and 34 Senate seats will be contested.
Shouldn’t every congressional candidate promise to uphold the whole U.S. Constitution during their campaign? If they won’t, they shouldn’t be elected.
