Reasons to support Planned Parenthood

The Republican Party has not only aligned itself with the very rich and powerful, but also with the radical Christian right. This is a powerful right wing religious group that believes that politics should promote their issues and views of morality and truth.

In fact, they believe their views on morality should be legislated into law. They say they are pro-life but what they really are is pro-birth. They want to stop all funding for Planned Parenthood, a proven health system that works on women’s health care needs, including pregnancy prevention. These moralists also embrace the Republican philosophy of what doesn’t kill you will make you strong.

Recently a Texas grand jury indicted two pro-life activists who broke the law to spread malicious lies about Planned Parenthood in order to advance their extreme, anti-abortion political agenda. It is now clear that the shocking and insensitive video and voice narration is a fraud.

It’s a sad reflection on America when our citizens attack an organization that provides health services for women. The small percentage of taxes contributed to Planned Parenthood for birth control is miniscule in comparison to raising a child in an environment that is harsh and challenging.

Anyone who wants fewer abortions should favorably support affordable access to contraception.
