US isolation could be in political future

If the citizens of the United States of America — acting out of fear, frustration, and ignorance in a political system that they themselves have allowed to decay into corruption — were ever to elevate the ignorant, vicious, thoughtless, bullying liar Donald Trump to the office of president of the United States, the international community of civilized nations would be forced to two conclusions.

First, that the citizens of the United States have become so politically and socially incompetent and so ill-educated regarding the responsibilities of citizens of a democracy that they are no longer capable of governing themselves rationally and effectively; and, second, that the United States — which has hitherto been a major participant in international military, commercial, and political discourse and action — can no longer be considered a trustworthy, responsible member of the international community, that it must now be viewed with a degree of suspicion and apprehension, and that it must often be excluded from such international discourse in the future.
