Bernie Sanders deserves caucus support

I find Sen. Bernie Sanders to be very much an honorable, compassionate, progressive, forward-looking presidential candidate in the finest traditions of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John and Robert Kennedy. Sanders’ vision, like Roosevelt and the Kennedys, embraces the interests, hopes, and dreams of all our people. I will be caucusing for Bernie on March 26.

I think those of us who are older and somewhat well off compared to the majority of Americans, need to acknowledge the American Dream is farther and farther out of reach for many.

Tuition is 1,150 percent higher than it was in 1978, when I was in college. Economic inequality is at its highest since the 1920s. Billionaires, corporations, and the most affluent fraction of a percent of Americans have the ability to literally try and buy the presidency and arguably have already bought Congress.

Even a moderate, such as President Carter, has expressed the view that the United States is now an oligarchy, and no longer a democracy.

I agree with Sen. Sanders that it is too late for establishment politicians and establishment politics to restore the American Dream and save our democracy. We must wage a peaceful political revolution, as Dr. King did, as Roosevelt did, and the Kennedys were trying to do.
