Sanders shows best Christian values
This is Easter weekend, Holy Saturday, important to Christians throughout the world. I am one of those, but I planned to spend my Saturday morning at the Democratic caucuses, trying to convince people to support Bernie Sanders, a (Democratic) Socialist who is Jewish.
Why? Because I believe Bernie comes the closest of any of our presidential candidates to the spoken words of Jesus. "I was hungry and you fed me, a stranger and you welcomed me, in prison and you visited me,.etc."
Jesus never qualified that mandate, as in "but only if they are deserving, or of a certain race or color, or an approved religion" - only that they were in need. And he said, 'even as you have done it for the least of these, you have done it unto me."
I think Bernie Sanders, of all the candidates, comes closest to advocating policies that would attempt to carry out this basic Christian mandate, more important than any other biblical reference because this is Jesus speaking about judgment day (funny, he didn't seem nearly so excited about who you slept with or how much wealth you had).
So, in the name of Jesus' love and compassion, I support Bernie Sanders for president. Happy Easter!
