Sen Murray must help prevent horse slaughter
As a concerned citizen and animal rights activist I would like to appeal to your humane side and am hoping to contribute in any possible way to end horse slaughter in the U.S. once and for all.
Congress has honored the fact that 80 eighty per cent of American voters oppose horse slaughter for consumption since 2005 by including language in the agricultural appropriations bill that prohibits funding for horse slaughter inspections.
Prohibiting inspections keeps horse slaughter plants from operating in the United States. This not only protects horses, but communities.
These plants drain local economies, pollute local water sources, decrease property value, create a foul stench, and offer dangerous low-income jobs that do almost nothing to bolster the economy.
Senator Murray has proven herself to be a leader who pays attention to what matters to us. I urge her to continue to do so by making sure the current language defunding horse slaughter inspections is included in any year-end spending package.
