Democrats must organize caucuses or get rid of them
I add my support to the letter about problems with the Democratic Party caucus held at Garfield Elementary. While nothing can come close to the idiotic clown car of the Republican presidential nominee process, I was embarrassed by the chaos at Garfield.
The point of holding a caucus is to allow party members to discuss candidates and issues. That has been my experience at previous Democratic caucus events. At Garfield, this proved impossible.
Several precincts were herded together into a small gymnasium. The din was overwhelming. Nobody took charge. Nobody knew how to proceed. Each precinct had to conduct business right there, with no instruction, while shouting over the noise coming from the many other precincts in the room.
As an undecided voter. I wanted to hear what Clinton and Sanders supporters had to say. Due to the din in the gym, I could not hear even 10 percent of what anyone said.
I left angry. If political parties cannot figure out, with four years to prepare, how to hold an intelligent presidential caucus, then can we please switch to a straight primary? It would save me a lot of stress over what I went through at Garfield.
I will vote for the Democratic nominee for president. The Republicans seem determined to offer up only bizarrely ignorant candidates. But I ask my party to either organize the caucus process, or give it up.
What happened at Garfield was not anything a thinking citizen could be proud of.
