No on North Thurston schools name change

I see no reason for the North Thurston Public Schools title to be changed to anything involving the Lacey name. When the district was formed, primarily, of South Bay School and Lacey School, care was taken that no district was slighted by using one or the other school name within the district name. After all, the district is now well established and respected. Changing names will only cause confusion as to who we are.

Time being spent trying to figure out whether to change the district name is, in my opinion, a waste of valuable time of our board. They have been voted into position to tend to educating our youngsters and, to a degree, our adult population as well. It is up to them to determine how to best use funding for educating the student body of each school.

I know that we taxpayers vote in levy and bond issues every few years. The expense involved in changing the name of the district would be very costly. Those will be dollars spent outside education and spent on the whims of a few who feel a need to include Lacey in our district name. Perhaps consideration needs to be taken into account on the expense of a name change and how easily the district may suffer from negative votes the next time funding is needed for education, salaries, and maintenance.

“NO” on name change!
