Procession of the Species deserves respect
To all the participants and spectators of the Procession of the Species; Sorry that your Procession experience was interrupted by Christians who refused to follow the rules regarding signage. The rules clearly state that signs are not to be displayed, but the involved Christians informed me they have special rights to ignore the rules.
I’ve been to every celebration for the past 10 years and have never seen such a display of selfishness and hubris. The young people parading around their offensive signs disrespected all the other attendees who were not displaying signs. This is what happens when you start giving religious cults special entitlements.
When Christians don’t have to follow laws regarding bigotry, homophobia, reproductive rights, educational standards, and labor standards, they think they don’t have to follow any laws or rules. What a shame to see an otherwise nice-looking young lady displaying her vanity (look at me!), selfishness (the Parade is about MY subject - not yours!) and societal disregard (I don’t have t o follow your rules).
Of the diversity of people at the event, no other group felt it necessary to impose their ideology on this parade. I may have been inclined to forgive their rudeness if their signage was positive (Jesus loves you!) but it was the utmost negative of the christian death cult. Christ died for you. You are a sinner. You’ll burn in hell. I at least have the good manners, good graces, and societal regard to follow the rules of a public celebration.
