We need more proven political insiders
While I agree with some of Sam Reed’s points, particularly about civility and honesty, he is wrong about being a “professional” politician.
In fact, “professional” politicians are the problem. The reason that politics is regarded with such disdain is that they are too “professional.” Rather than keeping faith with the voter, keeping their campaign promises, and sticking to principles, they make deals with other “professionals” and bureaucrats to further the chances of re-election. Such “professionals” become part of the inbred organization of government that is mostly concerned with maintaining and expanding their own fiefdoms.
It is no wonder that politics is under assault from the “extreme” right and left. The extremes are the first group that “gets mad as hell” and “won’t take it anymore.” Voter disaffection is now spreading to the middle.
The results, while disturbing, are hardly unexpected.
