Americans must move beyond stereotypes
To call Obama divisive for not attending Supreme Court Justice Scalia’s funeral service is as cheap as calling Antonin Scalia a racist. The president chose not to attend Scalia’s memorial service, but decided to pay his respects at a Supreme Court ceremony. He should have the freedom to do so.
In contrast, Antonin Scalia did not agree with affirmative action and he should have the freedom to disagree without being singled out as a racist.
As Americans we have to put down stereotypes and cutting remarks that cause division in our society. I can only hope that our leaders on both sides learn how to get along, and put the needs of the people first.
“There is little hope for us until we become tough-minded enough to break loose from the shackles of prejudice, half-truths, and downright ignorance” -- Martin Luther King Jr.
