Gun debate just isn't sensible
Mr. Hanson (Letter June 24) should have hesitated longer to give his opinion about the 2nd Amendment and actually read it first. The purpose is clearly stated therein, to wit, “a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The 2nd has nothing to do with target shooting, hunting, or even self-defense. Given the abject failure of gun control measures over at least 100 years, I challenge control advocates to support the only practical solution.
Repeal the 2nd Amendment. Outlaw all “arms” in civilian hands and confiscate those already in their possession. Make possession a felony with harsh penalties. Shut down all arms manufacturers, importers, and sellers in the US except those supplying the government. If they don’t do so, they are not really serious and are more interested in political gains than saving lives.
