Scarecrow Festival & Contest
What: This will be the seventh annual festival, an autumn celebration with farm animals, rides, carnival games, a scarecrow contest, live entertainment and vendors.
When: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
Where: Sehmel Homestead Park, 10123 78th Ave. NW, Gig Harbor.
Scarecrow competition: This event was created by local businesses, community groups and families. Come watch entrants compete for cash prizes and gift certificates for best of show and people’s choice in each category.
Festival activities: There will be arts and crafts, a petting zoo and a pumpkin launcher. Proceeds from the launcher will benefit PenMet Parks recreation programs. There will be free hay rides and $6 pony rides. Entertainment includes Leapin’ Louie Western show, Eric Haines doing a comedy and variety show, a PenMet open mic showcase and a performance by the Dark Horses.
Festival food: Dining options include barbecue, gourmet sandwiches, roasted corn, hamburgers and fair treats.
Admission: Free. A $2 per child donation will to help support the activities and music at the festival. Some activities have a small fee, such as $5 for the pumpkin launcher.
