St. Paddle’s Day

What: The fifth annual family event is a celebration of the start of the paddling season on Hood Canal.

When: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. March 18.

Where: Alderbrook Resort and Spa, 10 E. Alderbrook Dr., Union. The resort is on the south end of Hood Canal, just off state Route 106.

What to do: There will be non-sanctioned races, a standup paddleboard session yoga taught by Michelle Pugh of Joonbug Yoga, vendor booths and demonstrations. There also will be food and drink for sale. You can try BattleBrook Beer, brewed by Fish Tale Ales in Olympia especially for the resort.

Paddle races: There will be races for children, starting at 10:30 a.m. Adult races will be 3- and 6-mile courses that start at 11:15 a.m. Registration will close at 9:30 a.m. There will be a mandatory safety meeting for all racers at 10 a.m. Results and prizes will be announced at 2 p.m.

Cost: Free if you only watch. $10 a person to race.
