Section of Yelm-Tenino Trail to close for trestle repairs starting Wednesday

Starting Wednesday, June 24, a section of the Yelm-Tenino Trail in south Thurston County will be closed around the clock so construction crews can replace aging piling underneath the Deschutes River Trestle.

Construction is expected to last through September, according to the county, and that portion trail will be closed to the public throughout, without alternate access over the trestle.

The pilings underneath the 270-foot trestle are degrading, according to the county’s project description, and this work is included in Phase 2 of restoring the bridge structure.

The $460,000 project is funded through parks impact fees and the Real Estate Excise Tax.
