EDITOR’S NOTE: The Department of Natural Resources has now banned campfires on all DNR-protected lands in the state, not just the Olympia Region. This story has been updated to reflect that.

Campfires have been banned on all state lands that are protected by the state Department of Natural Resources due to high fire danger.

However, propane or butane camp stoves and backpacking stoves are still allowed.

DNR said in a news release that the most recent bout of dry summer weather has increased the danger of wildfires to high or very high levels for fire danger.

This restriction is a critical step to reduce potential wildfire ignition sources as fire dangers continue to stay elevated,” DNR noted in the news release. “Fuels across western Washington remain dry, and critical fire weather is forecast for this week.”
