Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance built 40 new WA trails this year. Here’s where they are
Washington’s hills and mountains already make it one of the great mountain biking destinations in the country. But this year, its trail systems got even more extensive.
The Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, a statewide organization that promotes the sport, announced earlier this month that it opened over 40 new trails in the state this year in coordination with land managers such as the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and local parks departments.
“When we’re planning new trail development, we first need to understand the community’s needs. Where do people live, what kind of riding opportunities already exist, and what’s missing,” Trails Director David Fleishhauer told McClatchy in an email.
Mountain biking news outlet Singletracks called the scale of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance’s trail building “staggering,” attributing it largely to the organization’s extensive staff of trail builders.
“Some of our construction projects are entirely volunteer powered, some are completed with just Evergreen staff, and most are a blend of both with a lot of community work parties,” Fleishhauer said.
Evergreen’s projects this year ranged from the Puget Sound area to the Cascade Mountains and eastern Washington. Here’s where you can find each of the new trails.
