Stick around for nighttime Mount Rainier programs

Come sunset, much of the crowd at Mount Rainier National Park has headed for home.

But that doesn’t mean the activities have halted.

Ranger-led programs are offered nightly at locations around the park, making sticking around until dark worthwhile.

Among the upcoming programs:

Friday (Aug. 7): 8:30 p.m. at Cougar Rock Campground amphitheater. Sara Cooley, a Geo-Crops intern, will give a program on the mountain’s glaciers.

Friday: 8:45 p.m. at Paradise Inn lobby. Ranger Greg Reed looks back at the early days of national parks and how the idea of a national park has changed over the years.

Saturday: 8:30 p.m. at Cougar Rock. Ranger Grant Smith will give a program on the short- and long-term natural changes at the park.

Saturday: 8:45 p.m. at Paradise Inn. Ranger Nora Rose Hencir will talk about the violent birth and growth of the volcano.

The programs are free. There is a $20 per vehicle entrance fee, good for seven days.
