International Kite Festival coming to Long Beach Peninsula
For the 35th year, the Washington State International Kite Festival is coming to the sandy shores at Long Beach.
This year’s event will run from Monday through Aug. 23.
The festival attracts thousands of people each year, from professional and amateur kite fliers to vendors to spectators. Events include demonstrations, kite battles, kite-making competitions, mass ascensions and fireworks.
Special guests for this year’s show are Max and Silvia da Fonseca Cardoso from Brazil. Kite clubs that will be on hand include Pierce County Kitefliers Association, Westport Windriders and Peninsula Breeze Blenders.
A free trolley will run to the beach from parking lots at Third Street South, the World Kite Festival Museum and the city parking lot of Bolstad Avenue.
Events will take place near the Bolstad Beach Approach in Long Beach.
